Stoneware, aptly named for it's stone-hard quality, is very durable and useful for the preparation and serving of food when glazed with glazes that are known to be safe. In contrast to earthenware, stoneware if fired to a much higher temperature to vitrify the clay, making it harder and less porous. All of my "food functional" pieces are made with safety and utility in mind. These pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe, using glazes that are safe for use with food.
